On Prosecutorial Ethics

The code of conduct of the Prosecution Service serves as a guide in our rapidly changing world.

Prosecutorial ethics offer advice and suggestions, and they determine for the prosecutors and every other staff member of the Prosecution Service what is exemplary and what is not.

Following the code of conduct allows our colleagues both in their professional and in their private life to ensure they act honorably.

We carry out our varied and diverse work with the following recommendations in mind:

we intend to do our duties impartially, consistently, efficiently, in a timely manner and without interference

we respect and protect human dignity, observe and comply with human rights and avoid all forms of discrimination

we pay particular attention to the disadvantaged and vulnerable, especially to minors, victims and disabled persons

we cooperate with our partner organizations, other authorities or other representatives of the legal profession in a firm but respectful manner

in criminal proceedings, our decisions are based on the objective assessment of the evidence

in the field of public law, we seek to avert impairment resulting from violation of law

In our personal lives, we shall behave professionally with law-abiding attitude. The members of the Prosecution Service cannot accept gifts, rewards, benefits and cannot suggest that they would accept these if being offered in connection with their prosecutorial activities.

The detailed standards of ethical conduct are determined by a recommendation from the General Prosecutor
